Fireside Adventures

Canada Adventure Teen Camp 2021

We wanted to highlight a company, named Fireside Adventures, that seems to offer just a little bit of everything. All you have to do is choose what it is you are interested in. This summer, they are providing teens the best of British Columbia and the Yukon.

This program includes:

  • Survival skills training, hot springs, bungee jumping, bike touring, linking with native communities, wilderness gourmet cooking courses, parkour training, and much more!
  • A guided Yukon River Expedition seeing Fort Selkirk, researching gold rush cottages, and viewing all sorts of wildlife such as bears, moose, mountain goats, and birds of prey!
  • Tours of University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Whistler, Dawson City, and Whitehorse
  • Youth Leadership Certificate from Fireside Adventures and Camp Adventure Outdoor

Canada: The land of maple syrup, lumberjacks, Rocky Mountains, and hockey, but they offer much more than that! This course is excellent for Germans, Italians, French, or other participants from around Europe and the world to come to experience Canada’s pristine wilderness in a secure and supportive guided excursion with 24/7 supervision from qualified outside educators.

They offer more than your normal teen camp, youth leadership training course, or Canadian childhood summer experience. For starters — they take seeking teen leaders down the unbelievable Yukon River, explore the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) college, spend some time in our exclusive Whistler ski lodge, travel Vancouver, develop wilderness survival skills, and pan for Yukon Gold! Ohh, they also give an alternative for the teenagers to go bungee jumping in Whistler. Why? As they are all about providing their participants the most classic summer camp experience in Canada.

Vancouver and Whistler Adventure

Youth arrive in Vancouver and start their experience in the University of British Columbia’s homes where they will bike to tour the town, team build, see the city sights and prepare to fly into the Yukon. It’s a chance for teenagers to become acquainted with west coast Canada life. Upon coming out of the Yukon, the team will spend their days taking in the best of Whistler, such as a day of bungee jumping and much more!

Yukon Adventure

Canada Adventure Teen Camp will have childhood paddling the excellent Yukon River, hiking the foothills trying to find gold rush cottages, camping on some of the most incredible river islands, and learning from Fort Selkirk First Nations. The teenagers will spend a couple of days researching Whitehorse while staying in our Yukon Home Place just outside the town, then will set off on their trip down the Yukon River. Hopefully, you might even see the Northern Lights!

Canada is one of the safest places in the world to explore, learn and have fun. Our team is wilderness first-aid certified, capable and professional adults that provide 24/7 support to participants. Our 10:1 participant to instructor ratio allows a deep connection to be made between our employees and teenagers and ensures appropriate supervision at all times.

They make sure everyone fuels up and starts the day with delicious, healthy, and remarkable food and wind down at the end of the day with a campfire sipping a cup of hot chocolate. In Fireside Adventures, youth are seen, heard, and considered.

The teen outdoor leadership training that happens during this program is a chance for youth to learn to become self-directed as they navigate what is in front of them, mainly while they form useful life forming viewpoints – such as climate change education, build positive relationships, prepare for post-secondary schooling, and develop an understanding of world events. It is not just a summer camp for adolescents; they provide an excellent course that offers life lessons, daily experiences when honoring the fantastic times and moments of being a teenager. They put importance on exploring the lands and respect the merits of studying while on the journey.

Safety

No matter a participant’s level of relaxation and outdoor skills, it’s safer to travel in a group, and it’s a lot safer to have an experienced instructor encouraging them. Our team is constantly prioritizes planning, preparing, and, most of all, teaching participants how to be safe in the wilderness.

Food

A well-nourished body has a significant effect on an individual’s experience in physical and mental exertion. Participants will find out how to pack and prepare healthy and holistic foods in our camp kitchens, suited for all diets.

Fitness Capacities

If you’re concerned about your child’s natural willingness to attend one of our Fireside camps/excursions, please contact them directly. They alter our adventures based on participants’ skills and capacities. Relax, and let’s work together to create an informed and shared decision.

Climate Change

They do their best to understand the current and future impacts of climate change. They give thoughtful discussions and rationale of why we must do our best to minimize our carbon usage, including ways to decrease food waste, non-recyclable substances, and much more. They take public transit or walk as much as possible and respect nature by reducing our environmental footprints.

Indigenous People

We acknowledge that we are people of the traditional lands of indigenous folks. We ask permission to explore their lands while also inviting local First Nations to participate in our camps, share their expertise and offer a space to collaborate. Fireside adventures recognize the traditional unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations.

Small-Group Focused & Mobile

They purposely place limitations on the group size (minimum eight and maximum 15) of participants as less means more for each player’s enriched and meaningful experience. They are not characterized by one permanent location as they believe that experience and learning come from exploring the lands and water.

Place and Inquiry-Based

All our selected places for our camps and teams are intentionally selected to provide a program for analysis and experiential learning, to learn throughout the natural world and its importance about culture, geography, history, people, and surroundings.

Social and Emotional Learning

They create a safe place so participants can develop and increase their flexibility, independence, and self-efficacy. They weave learning opportunities during our applications for participants to enhance the skills required to handle and understand their emotions and their relationships.

Inclusivity

We’re inclusive of all sexes, races, languages, cultures, shapes, sizes, colors, skills, and capacities. People who arrive on the first day of the camp/expedition are significant personalities of the common experienced that is to start. It’s a privilege to be the characters in each other’s stories and adventures, not our right.

Climate Change Course for Teens

At Fireside Adventures, they believe it is crucial to provide transformative experiences that adorn youth with the skills and knowledge to confront the climate crisis. Over two weeks, students will form friendships, develop endurance, and learn how to be climate leaders while getting outdoors and having fun!

This course uses a community-based experiential learning approach. This means you’ll be learning about sea-level rise by biking across the dykes that maintain Richmond above water, discovering about glacial melt by hiking to the North Shore’s mountain tops and learning about energy usage by canoeing across the hydro reservoir lakes in Port Coquitlam. Bottom line: we eliminate climate change from the abstract charts and numbers and put it, in reality, residing in Metro Vancouver in the 21st century.

Our small group cohort will use a self-propelled journey to research our area, expand our comfort zones, and join the landscape. Students will hike, bike, and paddle through various ecosystems in our area when learning from community partners and subject matter specialists. You can expect to find out about Climate Change mitigation and adaptation plans, personal leadership approaches, community organizing, wilderness travel skills, plant identification, indigenous traditional knowledge, intertidal ecology, and much more!

By the end of 2 weeks, students will understand how Climate Change affects Metro Vancouver and how we as individuals and communities influence the climate system on a local, national, and international level. It’ll be fun, it’ll be challenging, but our course graduates will leave with a deeper connection to nature and a renewed motivation to act on climate change with hope and urgency.
